Results From The 2011 Lubbock Invite — Clovis High’s boys came in seventh while the short-handed Lady Wildcats battled to a 12th-place team finish on Saturday in the Lubbock Invitational cross country meet.
El Paso Eastwood took the boys team title with 65 points to 67 for Amarillo Tascosa. Lewisville (Texas) Hebron was the girls team champion with a score of 50, while El Paso Coronado took second at 130.
“It’s a good meet,” CHS coach Mike Hankins. “It’s kind of like running a state meet. It’s probably the biggest meet we’ll have before state.”
Junior Chase Beausoleil led the Cats, finishing 15th in a field of 112 runners with a time of 16 minutes, 33 seconds over three miles. Senior Brandon Gutierrez came in 18th at 16:39.
The girls, meantime, were without three of their top five runners. Junior Britney Collins has been out all season with an injury while seniors Maddie McNaughton and Amy Miranda were nursing leg injuries.
Gladys Miranda, Amy’s cousin, stepped up to finish 12th overall in 12:21 over two miles.
“Gladys ran real well,” Hankins said. “She was basically a full minute faster on this course than she was last year.”
The Cats are idle next week. Their next outing is Oct. 8 in the New Mexico Military Invitational at Roswell.
