Results From The 2011 Ruidoso Invite — Clovis High’s cross country teams ran short-handed in Saturday’s Ruidoso Invitational, their final tuneup for next week’s District 4-5A competition at Ned Houk Park, but coach Mike Hankins was more than pleased.
Both CHS squads finished third in the Ruidoso Invitational. The boys had 94 points to trail Onate (75) and Hobbs (93), while the girls finished with 124 points to trail Hobbs (45) and Odessa High (94).
Senior Gladys Miranda ran second for the girls, who had to move up two junior varsity runners to field a squad on Saturday and didn’t compete in the JV portion of the meet. Miranda posted a time of 20 minutes, 38 seconds to finish 14 seconds behind Santa Teresa’s Britani Gonzalez, while senior Maddie McNaughton (21:40) was seventh and junior Brittany Collins (21:59) ninth.
The girls were missing four of their normal varsity runners — two on a band trip, one nursing an injury and another out with illness.
“Third place for the girls was pretty amazing,” Hankins said. “I can’t say enough about Gladys. Maddie is still nursing a leg injury, but I was proud of how she and Brittany ran today.”
For the boys, junior Chase Beausoleil finished fourth in 17:53 and senior Ty Carroll ran ninth in an even 18 minutes. Senior Kevin Dallas was taking an ACT test, while junior Nick Millet was also involved with band.
“Our top four boys today ran real well,” Hankins said. “I’m proud of their effort.”
Clovis teams host Carlsbad and Hobbs in the district meet on Friday, with the varsity boys running at 3 p.m., the varsity girls at 3:30 p.m. and the junior varsity races to follow.
