9/18/10 Carlsbad, NM - CHS boys win at Carlsbad Seniors Colton Dant and Kenan Bussen led the way Saturday as Clovis High’s boys captured the team championship in Carlsbad’s Ron Singleton Invitational cross country meet.

Dant ran a time of 16 minutes, 59 seconds in the five-kilometer event, placing fourth, while Bussen finished eighth in 17:21. Five Wildcats finished in the top 20 overall.

“The boys had a really good day,” CHS coach Mike Hankins said. “Colton and Kenan are leading us and doing a great job. As team leaders, they’re doing what they’re supposed to do.”

The Cats finished with 52 points to 73 for runnerup Artesia. Junior Ty Carroll also reached the top 10, finishing 10th in 17:45.

“The last three races we’ve had three different people finish third,” Hankins said. “That was probably Ty’s best race so far.”

Hobbs took the girls team championship with 52 points to 72 for Odessa Permian. The Lady Wildcats were fifth with 116 points, led by junior Amy Miranda in eighth place at 21:03.

“I think Amy ran her best race of the year for us,” Hankins said.

Individual winners were Julian Flores of Hobbs for the boys (16:08) and Ana Olesinski of Roswell High for the girls (19:55).

Clovis teams return to action on Saturday in the Lubbock Invite.
