Hobbs Invitational

10/14/10 Hobbs, New Mexico - CHS boys win at Hobbs  Clovis High’s boys put everyone in the top half of the field Thursday and cruised to the team championship in the Hobbs Invitational cross country meet.

The Wildcats finished with 30 points to 46 for the host Eagles in a field of eight full teams. All seven Clovis runners finished 22nd or better in a field of 50 runners, led by senior Colton Dant at 16 minutes, 10 seconds for second place and sophomore Gene Snell at 16:19 for third in the five-kilometer event.

“Colton ran like he’s been running,” CHS coach Mike Hankins said, “but today Kevin Dallas (fifth at 16:27) moved up and Gene Snell also ran well.”

Hobbs’ Julian Flores won the race in 15:35.

The Clovis girls, meantime, finishd second with 66 points, trailing Hobbs (31). Amy Miranda led the Lady Wildcats, placing sixth in 19:53, while sophomore Brittany Collins was seventh in 20:09.

“The girls ran well,” Hankins said. “The Hobbs girls just ran really well.”

The Lady Eagles’ Blaca Zubia was the individual winner in 19:11.

Clovis returns to action a week from today in the Ruidoso Invitational, scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.

RESULTS
