Amarillo Tascosa took the boys team championship with a score of 33 points to 88 for runnerup El Paso Montwood. Hobbs’ Julian Flores was the individual winner in 15:32.
The Clovis girls were 10th with 274 points. Coppell, Texas, won the team title with 43 points.
Senior Kenan Bussen also ran a strong race for the Clovis boys, placing ninth in 16:10.
Clovis coach Mike Hankins said the team competed well in a meet filled with Texas schools.
“Our guys have been running like that,” he said. “I’m not going to complain about how we ran. We all improved our times; the girls did too.
“We’re heading in the direction we want to go.”
Junior Maddie McNaughton led the Lady Cats, placing 15th in a field of 121 runners with a time of 12:15 over two miles. The girls’ individual champion was Coppell’s Kaleigh Ervin in 11:19.
RESULTS
The teams did well in the Lubbock Invite. Out of 18 total teams participating in 5A, our boys placed 4th and our girls placed 10th.
