10/9/10 Roswell, New Mexico - CHS boys win at NMMI — Senior Colton Dant and sophomore Gene Snell led four Clovis High boys in the top 10 and the Wildcats captured the team title in Saturday’s New Mexico Military Invitational cross country meet at Roswell, finishing with 38 points to 47 for Hobbs.
Dant and Snell were 3-4 for the Cats, each recording times of 16 minutes, 46 seconds in the 5K event.
The Clovis girls finished second with 48 points to 25 for first-place Hobbs.
“The boys ran good,” CHS coach Mike Hankins said. “We had a couple that weren’t maybe where they thought they’d be, but then someone like Gene steps up.
“I’m real pleased with the effort.”
Junior Amy Miranda led the Lady Cats, finishing third in 20:10, while sophomore Brittany Collins ran her first varsity race of the season and placed sixth in 20:29.
“Brittany ran well, but I was really proud of Amy Miranda,” Hankins said. “She ran a time that was the second-best (in school history) for a junior.
“As a group, we all improved today, and that’s all you can ask.”
CHS squads return to action at 4 p.m. Thursday in the Hobbs Invitational.
