9/11/10 Plainview, TX -Clovis sweeps Plainview meet. It wasn’t the biggest meet of the season, but CHS cross country coach Mike Hankins will gladly take it.
The Wildcats and Lady Wildcats notched team victories in Saturday’s Plainview Invitational, the boys scoring 22 points to 49 for Plainview and the girls finishing with 55 to 65 for the host school.
Most of the schools competing were on the small side, Hankins said, but he thought his people ran well.
“It’s always good to win,” he said. “This is a meet that we feel like we should win, and we ran like that. The kids just did a good job.”
Senior Colton Dant led a 1-2-3 sweep for the boys, finishing in 16 minutes, 40 seconds over three miles. Kenan Bussen was second (16:58) and Kevin Dallas third (17:05) as the Cats put all seven of their runners in the top 13.
Junior Maddie McNaughton won the two-mile girls race in 12:13.
“It doesn’t matter who (else) is running,” Hankins said. “We were here to run well, and we did that.
“It was great to see Colton and Maddie win these races. I think in their minds they just wanted to win a race.
The Cats and Lady Cats return to action on Friday in the Highland Invitational at Albuquerque, a varsity-only event.
